Gender Champion
Eligibility Criteria

A Gender Champion should fulfill the following eligibility criteria -

  • Gender Champions can be both boys and girls above 16 years of age
  • Should be enrolled in and regularly attending school or college.
  • She/he must have secured minimum of 50% marks or equivalent grade in the annual examination/school leaving certificate.
  • Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills.
  • Should have demonstrated leadership qualities
  • Excellent understanding of the socio-cultural issues and prevailing gender norms and practices
Selection

The students shall be selected by the Head of the Institution in consultation with the student representative s as Gender Champions on the basis of their intelligence, decisiveness and honesty, which are absolutely essential qualities of a leader. The selection decision will also be based on whether the candidate

  • engages him/her in visible and hands-on initiatives to reduce gender disparities and has organizational skills, including the ability to manage priorities,
  • makes continuous and substantive time investments in mentoring his/her peers, is easily recognizable by students /peers as a supporter of gender equality and
  • has experience in the field of gender equality, and an in-depth understanding of key issues and debates.
Students Grievance Redressal Cell

Grievance redressal cell of Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research, declared under section 3 of UGC Act, is an informal channel to address the grievances faced by faculties, students and women associated with the college.

Grievance redressal cell of Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research is constituted by Grievance redressal cell for faculties, Grievance redressal cell for students and Grievance redressal cell for women. Each Grievance redressal cell will function independently but in accordance with the Grievance redressal committee of Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research. The Grievance redressal cell functions along with IQAC (Internal Quality Assurance Cell)

Objectives

Grievance Redressal Cell of Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research, which is constituted by a group of members who hold senior rank in the college and provide mediation between the students, faculties and the higher authorities.

These cells are independent and optional mechanisms which will try to solve any conflict between the complainant and the respondent. The “complainant”, is a person or group who registers a complaint with the Grievance cell and the “respondent” is a person against whom the grievance is made.

The decision taken by the Grievance cell is non-binding, which means that the decision is enforced neither on the complainant nor on the respondent. The implementation of the decision is entirely dependent on the people involved in the conflict.

Scope

Registration of a grievance with the grievance cell is a voluntary choice of the complainant which means that the complainant has preferred to resolve the conflict in a non-confrontational manner.

The decisions and deliberations made by the Grievance cell are maintained with strict confidentiality. If the Grievance cell is not able to mediate to the satisfaction of those involved or not able to reach an acceptable solution, the Grievance cell relinquishes jurisdiction over the complaint.

Academic Matters

Related to timely issue Marks Sheets/Duplicate marks Sheet, Transfer Certificate, Conduct certificates or other matters related to Examinations.

Financial Matters

Related to dues and payments for various items i.e. tuition fees. exam fees, hostel fees, mess fees, transport fees etc.

Exclusions

The Students Grievances Redressal Cell shall not entertain the following issue:-

  • When a complaint is registered, with the grievance cell and if the cell finds that the complaint does not merit any further considerations on the part of the grievance cell, it will be communicated to all parties in the grievance cell.
  • If the grievance cell finds that the complaint merits further consideration, the cell should arrange for a meeting and an attempt must be made to hear suggestions from both the parties and the issue shall be resolved.
  • The grievance cell should correspond with the higher authorities regarding the complaint registered and try to resolve the issue.
  • The committee finds that there is no solution, the grievance cell will relinquish its jurisdiction over the complaint.
Appellate Authority

The Dean Engineering of the Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research will be the Appellate Authority.

Students Counselling Centre

Our mission at the Counseling Centre of Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research is to promote the mental health of all the students, to improve their quality of life and create a learning environment that facilitates their individual development. The Counseling Centre offers a broad range of services including individual therapy, group therapy, as well as medication, assessment and management

In addition to these, Counselling Centre provides a range of programs to promote mental health, emotional resilience and wellness throughout the campus community. Our counselors interact with students during orientation, conduct sensitization programs and theme-focused short-term group sessions. The Counselling Centre also runs a Training Programme for Student Coordinators to address suicide prevention and effectively deal with stressors on campus.

The College Counselling Centre was founded in, and provides the following services:

  • Personal counselling- interviews for better personal and social adjustment;
  • Personality evaluation tests for self-improvement;
  • Testing programmes for vocational purposes;
  • Information on careers, professions and specialized studies in India and abroad;
  • Information on scholarships and financial assistance schemes;
  • Help in the admission of students and
  • In organizing orientation programmes for fresher’s.

Psychometric tests are conducted all through the year at the centre. During the summer vacations these tests are conducted in special batches to cater to the rush that there is at that time.

Tests conducted are those to measure Aptitude, IQ, Interests and Personality. Once the tests are completed, explanations are given of the test results and guidance is provided accordingly.

Confidentiality

All sessions are confidential and no information is released to anyone. The obvious exceptions to confidentiality include cases that involve imminent harm and danger to the students. In emergency situations, students generally can be seen almost immediately.

Counsellor listens to the students' concerns with empathy and responds in a non judgemental way. The process is confidential except in a condition where disclosure is necessary to protect or abide by the institute policy.

Some of the common concerns of this age group student's are-

  • Academic pressures (Lack of concentration and motivation for studies, underachievement, backlogs, exam stress, unhealthy competition)
  • Loneliness and homesickness
  • Adjustment difficulties
  • Peer pressure
  • Relationship issues
  • Family Problems
  • Procrastination
  • Cyber bullying
  • Behavioural problems (anger outbursts, disobedience, lying etc)
  • Low confidence and self esteem
  • Suicidal thoughts
  • Depression, anxiety and other mental health problems)
  • Substance abuse

RAGGING IS A SOCIAL EVIL, RAGGING IS BANNED.

Ragging is against the concept of equality, student unity and civilized behavior.

Ragging has ruined countless innocent lives and careers. Eliminating ragging in all its forms from Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research is achieved by preventing its occurrence and punishing those who indulge in ragging, in accordance with the Supreme Court Regulations.

It is brought to the notice of all the students and staff members that Anti-ragging committee has been formed in our Institution.

Anti Sexual Harassment Cell

As per the guidelines of University Grants Commission and the Supreme Court an Anti Sexual Harassment Cell has been established by the Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research to provide healthy and congenial atmosphere between staff members and students of BIHER.

It was decided, the cell constituted would meet the following objectives:

  • to develop guidelines and norms for a policy against sexual harassment.
  • to develop principles and procedures for combating sexual harassment.
  • to work out details for the implementation of the policy
  • to prepare a detailed plan of actions, both short and long term.
  • to collaborate with the Women’s Study Cell, Women’s Christian College,
  • to organize gender sensitization awareness program.

Till now no cases of sexual harassment at workplace has been registered.
